Local Cleaners Raise €2,800 for Hospice Through Grassroots Charity Drive

A group of municipal cleaners in Rodgau has raised €2,800 for the Wasserturm Hospice. The money came from a charity drive organized entirely in their spare time. Known as the 'Tilly Charity Drive', the initiative has grown popular among city employees since its launch last January.

The cleaning team planned and ran the fundraiser without help from official channels. They sold homemade baked goods, crafted decorations, and collected personal donations from colleagues in the city administration.

The Wasserturm Hospice depends on large annual donations to keep running. With 45 volunteers, it provides essential care but requires constant financial support. To help maintain services, a new training course for hospice volunteers will start in April.

The 'Tilly Charity Drive' began in January 2023 as a grassroots effort. Despite its success, no records exist of a formal 'Tilly-Wohltätigkeitsfonds' or an individual who first established the fund. The name appears to be a local creation rather than an official charity.

The €2,800 donation will assist the hospice in covering operational costs. The cleaning team’s effort highlights how small, community-led initiatives can make a direct impact. Meanwhile, the upcoming volunteer training aims to ensure the hospice continues receiving the support it needs.
