Limburg-Offheim rocked by car crash and cemetery theft in one morning

A quiet morning in Limburg-Offheim took a dramatic turn on Monday, March 23, 2026. A serious car crash and a cemetery theft have left locals unsettled, with police now investigating both incidents.

At 6:50 AM, a 30-year-old man lost control of his Volkswagen on Federal Highway 456. The vehicle struck a tree, leaving the driver injured. Emergency services rushed him to hospital for further treatment.

Separately, between February 22 and March 22, a decorative copper lantern was stolen from a grave in Offheim cemetery. The theft adds to a growing trend: over the past five years (2021–2025), around 1,200 similar incidents were reported across German cemeteries. North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria saw the highest numbers in 2023, with roughly 350 cases each. Limburg Police Station is handling both investigations. Anyone with information about the stolen lantern can contact officers on (06431) 9140-0.

The driver remains under medical care following the early-morning collision. Meanwhile, the cemetery theft highlights an ongoing issue with grave decorations being targeted. Police continue to urge vigilance and report any suspicious activity.
