Limburg hit by crime wave: Robbery, theft, fire, and drunk driving in one week

A series of incidents shook the Limburg region last week, including a violent robbery attempt, a major construction site theft, and a destructive barn fire. Authorities also dealt with two separate alcohol-related traffic offences within hours of each other.

The first incident took place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at around 6:45 PM in Limburg an der Lahn-Staffel. A 55-year-old woman was confronted by two unknown assailants on Ringstraße who demanded cash. When she told them she had no money, they shoved her to the ground and fled without taking anything.

The following day, between 4:00 PM on Thursday, January 15, and 7:30 AM on Friday, January 16, thieves struck a construction site on Kirchgasse in Waldbrunn-Fussingen. Tools, machinery, and building materials worth around €5,000 were stolen from the site. On Monday, January 19, a barn on Lahnstraße in Gräveneck caught fire at approximately 8:30 PM. The homeowners noticed smoke and tried to put out the flames but found the wood-fired heating system inside already ablaze. Firefighters arrived and brought the fire under control, though the barn was completely destroyed. The estimated damage reached €50,000, and investigators ruled out foul play. Later that same evening, at 9:30 PM, a 34-year-old man lost control of his car on the B49 ramp to the A3 near Limburg. Under the influence of alcohol, he fled the scene on foot, leaving his vehicle behind. Just ten minutes later, police stopped a 31-year-old man riding an e-scooter in Limburg with a blood alcohol level exceeding 1.6 per mille.

The barn fire caused significant property loss, while the construction site theft and attempted robbery left victims without financial harm. Police are investigating the hit-and-run and drunk driving incidents, which both occurred within an hour of each other. No injuries were reported in any of the events.
