Honolulu Police Crack Down on Illegal Gambling in Waianae

In a continued effort to combat illegal gambling, the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) executed a search warrant on an illicit gambling venue in Waianae near Farrington Highway on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at around 6:30 PM.

The operation, which marked the second raid in Waianae related to illegal gambling in the past month, resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old male on suspicion of being involved in the illegal gambling operation. He is facing charges for promoting gambling and possession of a gambling device.

The small, dark room used for suspected illegal gambling was equipped with air conditioners and contained 20 homemade gambling machines, each consisting of large flat-screen TVs and buttons drilled into cabinets. A CCTV camera could be seen in one corner of the room. During the search, law enforcement discovered $3,615 in cash and illicit drugs, although the specific type of drugs was not specified.

The Honolulu Police Department has recorded nearly 120 gambling-related crimes since the last year, representing an increase year-over-year when compared to the 2023-2024 period, when a total of 110 such crimes were recorded. The involvement of other individuals in the illegal gambling operation, apart from the arrested 29-year-old male, was not specified in the provided information.

The raid is part of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Waianae to fight illegal gambling. In mid-June, three new bills were signed into law in Hawaii to further strengthen these efforts. Each of the signed bills plays an important role in the fight against illegal gambling.
