Latvian National Opera & Ballet Faces Two-Month Suspension for Crucial Renovations

The Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB) faces a potential two-month suspension of public performances in the coming year. This measure is being considered to meet a looming deadline for crucial renovation works, which include replacing outdated engineering networks and wiring.

Negotiations on the procurement regulations for these renovations have been ongoing for over a year, led by the Latvian State Construction Control Bureau (Valsts Nekustamie Īpašumi - VND). Despite the planned works being scheduled for the summer, when there are typically no performances, LNOB chairman Sandis Voldiņš has stated that repairs cannot be carried out without some interruption to operations. The approaching deadline may now necessitate a longer suspension of opera performances than initially anticipated.

The LNOB is exploring the possibility of a two-month suspension of public performances to ensure the completion of its renovation works by the deadline. This decision will allow for the replacement of its engineering networks and wiring, aiming to improve the overall operational efficiency and safety of the venue.
