Late-night A6 motorway crash causes chaos before Christmas Eve

A rear-end collision on the A6 motorway caused significant disruption late on December 24. The crash, involving a Romanian lorry and a car from Duisburg, led to road closures and emergency response efforts. Authorities estimate the total damage at over €16,000.

The incident took place at around 11:40 p.m. near the Viernheim interchange. Lukas M., a 28-year-old driver from Duisburg, crashed into the back of a Romanian articulated lorry. Investigators later confirmed inattention as the cause.

The 41-year-old Romanian lorry driver escaped unharmed. However, Lukas M. suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. Multiple police patrols, paramedics, and the Viernheim fire department arrived swiftly at the scene.

To clear the wreckage and conduct investigations, the southbound carriageway was shut for about an hour. Traffic delays followed as crews worked to reopen the road.

The collision resulted in one injury and substantial vehicle damage. Emergency services managed the situation efficiently, ensuring the road reopened within the hour. Authorities continue to assess the full extent of the incident.
