Lahn-Dill District: Weekend of Crime and Accidents Keeps Authorities Busy
A weekend of crime and accidents has left local authorities in Lahn-Dill district busy. An elderly man was assaulted in Wetzlar, burglars struck in Herborn, and two road incidents, one involving a drunk driver, kept emergency services occupied.
Monday evening saw a worrying incident in Wetzlar. A 71-year-old man was attacked on Neustadt Street around 11:20 PM. Three men demanded money and punched him in the face before fleeing towards Neustädter Platz. The victim sustained minor injuries but could not provide a description.
Earlier that evening, around 8:00 PM, burglars targeted a metalworking company's storage hall on Weilburger Straße in Herborn-Merkenbach. They cut through window bars and smashed glass to enter the premises, making off with several wire coils. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Over the weekend, license plates were stolen from a Fiat Panda parked at a commuter lot near the A45 highway in Ehringshausen. The plates, registered as LDK-XW 224, were taken between Friday afternoon and Saturday evening.
Early Saturday morning, a rear-end collision occurred on Federal Highway 277 near Sechshelden. A small delivery truck and a BMW 3 Series were involved. The BMW driver, a 23-year-old, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward in both the Wetzlar assault and Herborn burglary cases. The BMW driver involved in the highway collision is being investigated for drink driving. Anyone with information is urged to contact local authorities.
