Komi Residents Warned of Sophisticated Energy Meter Scam
Residents in Komi are falling victim to a sophisticated scam involving energy meter replacements and verifications. The scammers, claiming to be from Komi Energy Sales Company (JSC), are targeting both indoor and outdoor meters, aiming to gain access to victims' Gosuslugi accounts for further illegal activity.
The scam begins with scammers offering free meter replacement or verification services. Victims are then instructed to submit a request via Gosuslugi to arrange a visit. During this process, scammers may ask for sensitive information such as SMS verification codes or personal document details like passport or tax ID numbers. They may also request screen-sharing access on mobile devices, which the genuine company never does.
To protect themselves, customers should verify the legitimacy of any such requests. The company warns that they never ask for passwords, SMS codes, or personal document numbers. Customers can check if their meter requires verification or replacement through their personal account on the company’s website or the 'Moy Sbyt' app. Meter verification deadlines can also be checked through the company’s Telegram chatbot or by contacting customer service directly. It's crucial to request official identification from any visiting technician and to cross-check with the energy provider or regional energy authority.
Residents in Komi are urged to be vigilant against these scams. If you receive a suspicious call, do not share any personal or sensitive information. Instead, contact your energy provider or the regional energy authority to verify the legitimacy of the request. By staying informed and cautious, residents can protect themselves from these scams and ensure the security of their personal information.
