Knife-Wielding Suspects Injure Police in Eschwege Rampage
A violent confrontation in Eschwege left several police officers injured after responding to a knife-related threat. The incident began when a 27-year-old man allegedly brandished a folding knife and later resisted arrest alongside a 39-year-old woman. Both suspects now face blood tests as part of the ongoing investigation.
The trouble started in Netergasse, where a 26-year-old man from Guxhagen reported being threatened by the 27-year-old suspect. Witnesses claimed the attacker verbally abused the victim before pulling out a closed folding knife. Police later traced the suspect to a nearby apartment belonging to a 39-year-old woman.
When officers arrived, the 27-year-old tore the front door off its hinges and used it as a weapon against them. The woman also joined the assault, forcing police to deploy batons. During the struggle, she suffered a laceration and was taken to hospital for treatment.
All officers involved sustained head and facial injuries, including bruises and haematomas. They received outpatient care but were temporarily deemed unfit for duty. The Kassel Public Prosecutor's Office has since ordered blood samples from both suspects.
This marks the first recorded violent clash between civilians and police in Eschwege or the Werra-MeiΓner district in over two years. The investigation continues, with authorities examining the circumstances of the knife threat and the subsequent attack on officers.
