Knife-wielding robber flees Gernsheim gas station after worker fights back
An attempted robbery took place at a gas station on Mainzer Straße in Gernsheim in the early hours of Thursday, December 18. A 29-year-old man entered the store, threatened an employee with a knife, and demanded cigarettes and vodka before fleeing the scene. The incident began just after 12:40 a.m. when the suspect brandished a knife and ordered the employee to hand over alcohol and tobacco. The worker immediately activated the alarm and used pepper spray, forcing the man to run away.
Police arrested the suspect shortly afterwards near the gas station. Officers noted his blood alcohol level was around 2.2 per mille, leading them to require a formal blood test. The Rüsselsheim Criminal Police are now handling the investigation. The man has been charged with attempted robbery and remains in custody.
The case will proceed through the legal system, with the suspect facing formal charges. Authorities have confirmed no injuries were reported during the incident. The investigation continues under the direction of local criminal police.
