Kitchen fire in Offenbach apartment leaves one injured and building damaged

A fire broke out in an apartment building on Schopenhauerstraße in Offenbach on January 28, 2026. Emergency crews responded swiftly, with firefighters arriving at the scene shortly after 5:20 p.m. The blaze was brought under control within an hour, but one resident suffered injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The fire began in the kitchen of one of the flats, where a wooden board had been left too close to a switched-on stovetop. Flames spread quickly, but firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the kitchen area. They worked from 5:24 p.m. until 6:28 p.m. to fully extinguish the fire and secure the building.

One person was injured during the incident. Their condition is not yet known, and their name has not been released to the public. Authorities have not yet confirmed the full extent of the property damage caused by the fire.

The cause of the fire has been identified as accidental, linked to the wooden board near the stovetop. Investigations into the exact damage to the apartment and building are ongoing. Fire services have reminded residents to keep flammable materials away from heat sources to prevent similar incidents.
