Kering Confirms Massive Data Breach Affecting 7.4M Luxury Customers
Luxury goods conglomerate Kering has confirmed a significant data breach, affecting millions of customers from its high-end fashion brands Gucci, Balenciaga, and Alexander McQueen. The company refused to pay a ransom after negotiations with hackers, known as Shiny Hunters, broke down in April.
The cybercriminal group Shiny Hunters claimed to have data linked to 7.4 million unique email addresses. Kering has since notified relevant data protection authorities about the incident. The stolen data includes personal information such as names, contact details, addresses, and spending habits of customers. Notably, no financial information was compromised in the breach.
Kering's parent firm confirmed the security breach after Shiny Hunters shared a sample of the stolen data with the BBC. The hackers initially demanded a ransom, but negotiations failed, leading Kering to refuse payment.
The data breach at Kering's luxury brands has raised concerns about customer privacy. While no financial information was compromised, personal data of millions of customers has been exposed. Kering has taken necessary steps to inform authorities and customers, but the full extent of the breach and potential impacts remain under investigation.
