Kazakhstan Ratifies Two Key International Agreements on Crime Fighting and Extradition
The Majilis has recently ratified two significant international agreements. The first is the Agreement on the Establishment of the International Risk Assessment Center (IRAC) for the legalization of proceeds from crime and the financing of terrorism. The second is the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of Morocco on Extradition.
The IRAC agreement, signed on October 13, 2023, in Bishkek, aims to enhance cooperation among financial intelligence units of CIS countries. It will facilitate the exchange of information and best practices to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. The center will also study trends and methods used by criminals, including new technologies.
The extradition agreement between Kazakhstan and Morocco, signed on December 12, 2024, in Rabat, outlines the terms for the extradition of criminals between the two countries. This agreement demonstrates the commitment of both nations to international cooperation in law enforcement.
The ratification of these agreements by the Majilis is expected to strengthen Kazakhstan's efforts in combating financial crimes and promoting international cooperation in law enforcement. The IRAC center will provide a platform for timely response to identified threats, while the extradition agreement with Morocco will facilitate the extradition of criminals, further enhancing regional security.
