Kazakhstan Honors Qazaq Küresi with New Commemorative Coins in 2025

Kazakhstan’s National Bank has unveiled a new set of commemorative coins celebrating Qazaq küresi, a traditional Kazakh wrestling sport. The coins form part of the ongoing 'Traditional Rites and National Games of Kazakhstan' series and will go on sale from December 17, 2025.

Three versions of the coin have been produced, each with distinct specifications. The premium edition is a 24-gram silver piece, struck in proof quality with a 37 mm diameter and a face value of 1,000 tenge. Only 2,000 of these silver coins—available in 925 sterling silver with gold plating—will be issued.

The mid-range option is a cupro-nickel coin weighing 15 grams, featuring a 33 mm diameter and a face value of 200 tenge. Minted in brilliant uncirculated quality, this version has a limited run of 5,000 pieces.

For wider circulation, a nickel-silver coin has been released, weighing 11.17 grams with a 31 mm diameter. Struck in uncirculated quality, it carries the same 200 tenge face value but with a much larger mintage of 50,000 pieces.

All coins were produced by the Kazakhstan Mint, the official minting facility of the National Bank. They depict imagery related to Qazaq küresi and hold legal tender status across the country.

The coins will be sold through the National Bank of Kazakhstan’s online store from December 17, 2025. As legal tender, they must be accepted nationwide for payments, deposits, and financial transactions at their designated face values. The release marks the latest addition to the bank’s series honouring Kazakhstan’s cultural heritage.
