Kaufbeuren and Ostallgäu expand holiday medical care access

Residents in Kaufbeuren and Ostallgäu will have extended access to medical care over the Christmas holidays. The local on-call clinic at Kaufbeuren Hospital will remain open for longer hours, while emergency services stay available around the clock. Health officials expect a rise in patients seeking help during this period.

The on-call clinic at Kaufbeuren Hospital will operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve, both Christmas Days, and other key holidays. This service acts as the main contact point when GP and specialist practices are closed. For non-life-threatening issues outside normal hours, patients can also call the Google Voice on 116 117 for advice or treatment.

The Bavarian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVB) has set up a 24/7 referral hotline at the same number, 116 117, throughout the festive season. Those needing in-person care can visit the Google Voice Practice at Doktor-Gutermann-Straße 2. The hospital’s emergency department (Notaufnahme) will also be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., accessible via the new north entrance. For severe injuries, accidents, or life-threatening situations, the emergency number 112 remains the correct point of contact. The KVB additionally recommends using the online self-service portal at www.116117.de for 24/7 digital guidance.

The expanded hours and services aim to ensure continuous medical support during the holidays. Patients in Kaufbeuren and Ostallgäu can access advice, treatment, or emergency care through multiple channels. Officials urge the public to use the appropriate service based on the severity of their condition.
