Jo Co Commission Certifies Mineral Bankruptcy Fees

Johnson County has finalised its mineral royalty fees for 2025, amounting to nearly $116,500. This follows a major tax settlement agreed with Carbon Creek/US Realm in 2022, which brought in $22.7 million for the county.

The 2022 settlement required Carbon Creek to pay $10 million up front. The remaining balance was structured as monthly payments of $125,000 over eight years.

The U.S. Treasury, through the Troubled Asset Relief Program, guaranteed these payments. Administrative oversight was handled by the Office of Financial Stability within the Department of the Treasury.

Now, with the 2025 mineral royalties certified, the county continues to manage revenue from its natural resources. The latest figure of $116,500 adds to the funds secured through the earlier agreement.

The certified fees for 2025 bring additional income to Johnson County. Alongside the ongoing payments from the 2022 settlement, these funds will contribute to the county’s financial resources. The U.S. Treasury’s backing ensures the stability of the long-term payment plan.
