A car crashed into a bus stop in Giessen’s city centre on 22 December 2025, leaving four people injured. Authorities have launched an investigation, with the Hessian State Criminal Police Office (LKA) leading the case. The driver, a 32-year-old Azerbaijani resident of Giessen, is now under provisional arrest.

The incident occurred when an Audi veered into a group of pedestrians waiting at the bus stop. One person suffered severe injuries, though investigators confirmed these were not caused by an intentional attack. The LKA is examining all possible angles, including whether a medical condition may have affected the driver’s actions.

Hessian Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) has dismissed speculation about a political or terrorist motive. Instead, the focus remains on gathering evidence, with authorities calling for witness videos and images to clarify the events leading up to the crash. The driver, who holds Azerbaijani citizenship but lives in Giessen, remains in custody as the inquiry continues.

The investigation is still active, with no final conclusions yet drawn. The LKA continues to review evidence, including potential medical factors behind the crash. Four individuals were hurt, but none of the injuries were linked to a deliberate assault.
