Indore’s cybercrime surge leaves 8,000 victims and Rs 100 crore lost in 2025

Indore witnessed a significant increase in cybercrime during 2025, with fraudsters stealing over Rs 100 crore from more than 8,000 victims. Police recorded 72 cases and apprehended 112 suspects, but only a small fraction of the stolen money was recovered. Authorities also reported progress in other areas, such as a higher success rate in locating missing children and solving all reported murders.

Cybercriminals primarily targeted elderly residents, employing 'digital arrest scams' to coerce victims into transferring substantial sums. Fear of legal repercussions led many to comply, resulting in substantial financial losses. Although police managed to recover Rs 17.24 crore—around 17% of the total stolen—this represented an improvement over 2024’s recovery rates.

Crimes against women exhibited mixed trends. Incidents of harassment and eve-teasing rose, yet the overall number of such offenses decreased. Meanwhile, efforts to locate missing children demonstrated notable progress, with recovery rates climbing nearly 51% compared to the previous year. Law enforcement also achieved a 100% clearance rate in murder investigations, arresting all accused in 2025.

The year’s data underscores both the challenges and triumphs for Indore’s police force. Cyber fraud persists as a major concern, despite enhanced recovery efforts and more arrests. Conversely, improvements in locating missing children and solving murders indicate stronger investigative work in specific areas.
