Indore cracks down on liquor shops defying opening hours with late-night raids

The State Excise Department has launched a strict enforcement drive in Indore to stop liquor shops from opening early or late, with teams led by Deputy Excise Controller ADEO Manoj Agrawal patrolling the city, particularly after hours, to catch breaking news of illegal sales. The crackdown began after reports of shops breaking timing rules and selling liquor clandestinely at night. The operation was ordered by the Excise Commissioner to tackle widespread violations. On the first day, all liquor shops in Indore closed on time, and inspectors took immediate action against those breaking the rules. Teams arrived with welders to permanently seal hidden openings used for passing bottles illegally after dark. The campaign has already forced shops to follow closing times strictly, with fines issued and illegal openings sealed, aiming to maintain tighter control over liquor sales. Further penalties and monitoring will continue as part of the ongoing enforcement effort.
