In Vladivostok, auto scammers stole 7.5 million rubles in insurance

A Vladivostok court has sentenced the organiser of an insurance fraud ring to five years in prison. The group staged fake traffic accidents to steal millions in payouts between 2019 and 2021. Investigators recovered around 7.5 million rubles ($80,000) linked to the scheme.

The convicted individual faced 20 charges of organised insurance fraud and one count of attempted fraud. They also tried to claim an extra 400,000 rubles ($4,300) but failed before authorities intervened.

During the trial, the defendant cooperated with investigators, helping uncover additional crimes. This assistance led to a reduced sentence in a general-regime penal colony. Criminal proceedings against other members of the same group remain active. Their identities have not been publicly disclosed in available records.

The case highlights a coordinated effort to defraud insurers through staged collisions. Legal action against remaining participants is still ongoing. The recovered funds totalled approximately 7.5 million rubles.
