Hütt Brewery Closes - Brands Remain - Iconic Hütt Brewery closes but its legendary beer brands live on

Hütt Brewery in Baunatal is set to close, a victim of the challenging German beer market. Despite the closure, its iconic brands, Hütt and Hessische Löwen, will live on under new ownership.

Frank Bettenhäuser, the brewery's managing director and owner, had been seeking a successor to secure the brewery's future but was unable to find one. The decision to close the brewery comes after years of struggling with declining sales, rising costs, and shifting consumer preferences.

The closure will lead to the shutdown of the Baunatal production site and the loss of jobs for its approximately 40 employees. However, the brewery's legacy will continue. Schlossbrauerei Rheder, a heritage brewery from Brakel, North Rhine-Westphalia, will take over the Hütt and Hessische Löwen brands, along with their original recipes and supply contracts, effective December 1, 2025. This move ensures that these beloved beer brands will remain available to consumers.

The closure of Hütt Brewery is a loss for the Baunatal community, but the survival of its brands under the care of Schlossbrauerei Rheder offers a silver lining. Consumers can continue to enjoy Hütt and Hessische Löwen beers, brewed with the same recipes and commitment to quality that made them popular.
