Iconic Austrian Gourmet Restaurant Schloss Prielau Files for Insolvency

Andreas Mayer GmbH & Co KG, operators of the renowned gourmet restaurant and luxury hotel at Schloss Prielau, has filed for insolvency at the Landesgericht Salzburg. The company, based in Maishofen, faced significant economic challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and increased operating costs, leading to the termination of staff contracts on October 15, 2025.

The restaurant, led by Andreas Mayer and his wife Anette since 2004, was a culinary gem in the Pinzgau region. It served French-oriented gourmet cuisine with robust flavors, earning it 2 stars from Guide Michelin and 3 toques from Gault Millau. Despite its success, the lessor abruptly terminated the lease agreement on the same date as the staff terminations. Andreas Mayer, a student of Eckart Witzigmann, prioritized sustainability and organic quality in his restaurant, sourcing most products locally from around Schloss Prielau and the Pinzgau region. The company also offered a helicopter landing pad for guests arriving by air.

The company's economic situation deteriorated significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and government restrictions, ultimately leading to the insolvency application.
