ICE train breakdown strands passengers for hours near Limburg
An ICE train travelling between Frankfurt and Cologne came to a sudden stop near Limburg an der Lahn on Friday evening. The disruption was caused by a fault in the overhead power line, leaving passengers stranded for hours. The incident occurred late on Friday, forcing the high-speed service to halt unexpectedly. Passengers remained stuck on board for more than three hours before firefighters arrived to assist. The rescue operation then took a further three and a half hours to safely evacuate everyone from the train.
Normal service on the line did not restart until Saturday morning. Deutsche Bahn has not yet provided details on when full operations will return to schedule or what steps will be taken to avoid similar delays in future.
The overhead line failure caused significant delays, with travellers facing a long wait before reaching their destinations. While the line reopened the following day, further updates on long-term solutions have yet to be announced.
