Hunting lodge break-in sparks police manhunt for stolen rifles in Eschwege

A hunting lodge in Eschwege was broken into over the weekend, with unknown offenders stealing weapons and equipment. The incident took place between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, leaving behind significant damage. Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any details.

The break-in happened at a former signal box, now used as a hunting lodge, in the Meinhard/Frieda district near Frieda village. Between 2:00 PM on Friday and 9:15 AM on Saturday, the perpetrators forced their way in by prying open a door. Once inside, they detached a wall-mounted safe containing three hunting rifles, ammunition, and other high-value items.

The empty, damaged safe was later found discarded in a stream near a parking area along the L 3467 road, between Frieda and Großtöpfer. Alongside the firearms, the thieves also took a backup power generator and expensive hunting accessories. The total damage caused by the break-in is estimated at €2,500. Eschwege Criminal Police’s specialised burglary unit is leading the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact them at 49 5651 925-0.

The stolen items include firearms, which raises concerns about their potential misuse. Police continue to search for leads in the case. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to reach out to the Eschwege Criminal Police immediately.
