Hünfeld and Fulda hit by a wave of petty crimes and vandalism

A series of small-scale crimes struck Hünfeld and Fulda over the past few days. Thieves and vandals targeted public property, private businesses, and even a festive decoration. Police are now investigating the incidents, which caused minor but costly damage.

In Hünfeld, a tall wooden nutcracker statue—around 180 cm high—was stolen from Bahnhofstraße. The decorative figure, often associated with seasonal displays, disappeared without a trace.

Meanwhile, two public transit buses parked on the same street lost their rear licence plates. The stolen plates bore the numbers FD-RB 2078 and FD-RB 2573. Authorities have yet to recover them. Elsewhere in Hünfeld, unknown individuals damaged a roller shutter on Josefstraße. The incident left the property owner with roughly €150 in repair costs. In nearby Fulda, a mailbox and intercom system on Wassily-Kandinsky-Straße were destroyed by a firework. The blast caused around €150 in damage, though no injuries were reported.

The incidents remain under investigation by the Osthessen police. While no suspects have been named, the combined damage and thefts have left local businesses and transport services dealing with unexpected costs. Anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities.
