How a small painting firm became a Hessian construction powerhouse over 75 years
Arta Jäger GmbH, a family-run business in Obertshausen, has grown from a small painting company into a major regional contractor. Founded in 1949 as Malerbetrieb Weberstetter, the firm now employs around 60 people and handles projects across Frankfurt, Offenbach, and Darmstadt. Its services range from delicate restorations to large-scale construction work.
The company began under Johann Baptist Weberstetter, who built a reputation for quality craftsmanship. His focus on skill and reliability earned a loyal customer base that still supports the business today.
In 1997, Stefan Jäger, a business graduate, and Markus Jäger, a master painter, took over from their father-in-law. They rebranded the firm as Arta Jäger GmbH, expanding its services beyond painting to include façade work, floor restoration, and full construction projects. Today, the company tackles everything from repairing mould-damaged walls to building daycare centres and restoring historic villas. Training the next generation remains a priority. Each year, Arta Jäger hires three new apprentices, with nine currently in training—some from Obertshausen itself. The firm aims to retain them after qualification, offering paths to master craftsman school or site management roles. However, finding enough applicants has grown harder due to the wider skilled labour shortage. Now in its third generation, the company operates from its base on Im Hain street. Its reach extends well beyond Obertshausen, securing contracts in key nearby cities and establishing itself as a trusted name in the region.
Arta Jäger continues to balance tradition with growth, maintaining its craftsmanship roots while taking on larger projects. The firm's commitment to apprenticeships and employee development ensures its workforce remains skilled for future demands. With a steady presence in major Hessian cities, the company remains a significant player in the construction and restoration sector.
