House fire in Rödermark-Ober-Roden leaves €70,000 in kitchen damage

A fire broke out in a residential house on Thomasstraße in Rödermark-Ober-Roden yesterday evening. The blaze started just after 5:30 p.m. and caused significant damage to the property. Fortunately, all occupants escaped safely before emergency services arrived on the scene. The fire originated in the kitchen on the ground floor, specifically from the range hood. A technical defect in the appliance is suspected as the cause. Firefighters arrived quickly and managed to contain the flames, preventing them from spreading to other parts of the house.

The kitchen sustained heavy damage, along with part of the exterior facade. The estimated cost of repairs is around €70,000. Due to thick smoke, the two residents were temporarily housed with acquaintances while the building was assessed. The crime scene investigation unit will now examine the site to confirm the exact cause. Duty Police Superintendent Nicole Steffens, overseeing the Offenbach am Main area, confirmed that no injuries were reported. Authorities have not yet released details on whether similar incidents involving defective range hoods have occurred in other German cities in recent years.

The investigation into the fire's origin continues, with a focus on the suspected faulty range hood. Once completed, the findings will determine any further steps. The residents remain displaced while repairs are carried out on the damaged property.
