Hochtaunus hit by fraud, theft, and vandalism in February 2026 crime wave
A series of crimes struck the Hochtaunus district in early February 2026, leaving residents on alert. Fraudsters, thieves, and vandals targeted different areas, with incidents ranging from scams to break-ins and theft. Local police continue to investigate while reminding the public about ongoing prevention efforts.
On Friday, February 6, fraudsters posing as bank staff tricked a resident in Schmitten into transferring several thousand euros to an unknown account. The scam involved convincing the victim that their money was at risk, prompting the urgent transfer.
Just four days later, on Tuesday, February 10, a senior citizen had his wallet stolen while shopping in Usingen around 4:10 PM. The suspect, described as a man between 40 and 50 years old, stood about 1.80 m tall. He wore glasses, a cap, a mustache, and a black jacket over a grey shirt, paired with blue jeans and dark shoes.
That same afternoon, around 4:40 PM, two teenagers damaged a fence in Ober-Eschbach. Witnesses reported the pair as roughly 15 years old, slim, and dressed in blue and black sweaters.
The previous day, Monday, February 9, a home in Mammolshain was burgled between 12:15 PM and 5:30 PM. The intruders entered through a ground-floor window and searched the living areas before fleeing.
To combat such crimes, Hessian police presidiums regularly host prevention stands at public places like markets and shopping centres. Upcoming events in Main-Taunus on March 10 and 12, 2026, in Hochheim and Flörsheim, will offer advice on fraud schemes. Materials from campaigns like Ich lege auf and CESA (covering call-centre scams, grandparent tricks, and shock calls) will also be distributed.
Police are investigating all incidents and urge residents to stay vigilant. Prevention efforts, including public information stands and awareness campaigns, remain active in the region. Anyone with details on these crimes is encouraged to contact local authorities.
