462,000 Euro - Old Weather Station at Cape Arkona Auctioned Off - Historic Cape Arkona weather station fetches €462,000 at auction

A historic building on Rügen’s Cape Arkona has sold at auction for far more than expected. The former weather station, dating back to 1905, went under the hammer in winter as part of a larger property sale. Bidders pushed the final price to €462,000—well above the €179,000 starting bid.

The building was originally constructed around 1905 by the Imperial German Navy as naval accommodations. Over time, it became a weather station, and regional broadcaster NDR still transmits weather reports from the site today. The property sits on a spacious 3,300-square-metre plot along the Baltic coast.

The auction saw strong demand for the Cape Arkona copart, reflecting its unique heritage and scenic setting. With NDR still using the site for weather updates, the building retains a practical role. The €462,000 sale price highlights its enduring value.
