High-speed police chase ends with two arrests in Hanau after unlicensed driver flees

Two men in Hanau are under investigation after a high-speed chase involving an unlicensed driver. The incident began when police noticed a blue Fiat Punto with an expired inspection sticker. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled at dangerous speeds.

The 29-year-old driver, who did not have a valid licence, was allegedly under the influence of cannabis. When police signalled for him to pull over, he briefly stopped before accelerating sharply. The car then sped through dense urban traffic at over 90 km/h (56 mph) and ran a red light.

The 25-year-old passenger fled on foot after the chase ended but was quickly caught and provisionally arrested. Both men were taken into custody, and blood samples were collected for testing. The car keys were seized, and the vehicle's registered owner now faces charges for allowing an unlicensed driver to use the car.

Authorities are investigating the pair for illegal street racing, endangering road traffic, driving without a licence, and resisting law enforcement.

No further details on public reactions or local traffic safety measures have been reported. The case remains under investigation, with charges pending against both suspects. The incident adds to recent traffic-related concerns in the region, including a separate crash on the A45 near Hanau in February 2026.
