High-speed police chase ends in crash with weapons found in car

A 21-year-old driver fled from police during a traffic stop in Bürstadt late on Sunday evening. The chase ended in a crash near the railway underpass on Vincenzstraße. Both the driver and his 20-year-old passenger were taken into provisional custody after the incident.

The incident began at around 11:30 p.m. on January 25, when officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Nibelungenstraße. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated away, prompting a brief pursuit. The car eventually crashed near the railway underpass, bringing the chase to an abrupt halt.

A search of the vehicle uncovered multiple knives, a baseball bat, and a mirror with traces of an unidentified white powder in the glove compartment. Authorities have not released the driver’s name, but investigations are now underway. The 21-year-old now faces suspicion of unauthorised street racing, in addition to the initial traffic violation that triggered the stop.

The driver and passenger remain in provisional custody as police continue their investigation. The discovery of weapons and suspicious substances in the car adds further complexity to the case. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether additional charges will follow.
