A high-speed chase on the A5 motorway ended in a crash after a driver fled from plainclothes police officers. The incident began during a routine check but quickly escalated as the motorist attempted to evade capture. Both directions of the motorway were later closed, causing major delays for travellers.
The pursuit started when an undercover patrol from the Polizeipräsidium Mittelhessen tried to stop a vehicle near Friedberg. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated and headed toward Frankfurt before suddenly reversing direction toward Kassel. Officers gave chase along the A5, but the situation ended abruptly near Ober-Mörlen when the fleeing car collided with the pursuing police vehicle.
The driver suffered injuries in the crash and was rushed to hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet confirmed the reason behind the motorist’s decision to flee. The investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing.
The collision forced a full closure of the A5 in both directions, leading to significant traffic congestion. Emergency services attended the scene, and the motorway was later reopened once wreckage was cleared. Police continue to examine the events leading up to the chase and crash.
