Heusenstamm fights oak processionary moth early due to rising temperatures
Local authorities in Heusenstamm are taking early action against the oak processionary moth this year. Due to unusually high temperatures, vegetation growth has accelerated, forcing measures to start around 14 days sooner than normal. Work could begin as early as tomorrow, depending on weather conditions.
The operation will involve spraying a biological agent from the ground using a large blower attached to a tractor. The substance is safe for humans, bees, and other insects, and it will not harm nearby objects. Contractors from Raupenspezialisten GmbH will focus on trees that have been infested in previous years, continuing treatments until April 25.
The early intervention aims to curb the spread of the oak processionary moth before nests develop. If successful, the measures will reduce the need for more invasive and expensive removal later in the year. Residents are advised to check for updates in case of weather-related delays.
