Hessian State Railway: Finance Secretary Kaesbach is New Supervisory Board Chairman
The Hessian State Railway (HLB) has appointed a new leader for its supervisory board. Till Kaesbach, Hesse’s financial state secretary, took over the role after a unanimous vote. He replaces Uwe Becker, who held the position until December 18, 2025.
Kaesbach now chairs the board of a company that plays a vital part in regional transport. The HLB operates trains and buses across Hesse and nearby states, covering 18.6 million train-kilometres and 7.8 million bus-kilometres each year. Around 1,800 employees keep the services running.
In his first remarks, Kaesbach called the HLB *‘a cornerstone of local passenger transport in Hesse and neighbouring regions’*. The company also plans to boost reliability with a new maintenance depot in Butzbach, scheduled to open in 2026. Financially, the HLB expects revenue of roughly €520 million in the coming fiscal year. The firm continues to focus on improving service quality while expanding its network.
The leadership change comes as the HLB prepares for future growth. With a new maintenance facility on the way and steady revenue projections, the company aims to strengthen its role in regional transport. Kaesbach’s appointment marks the start of a new phase for the railway operator.
