Communities Rely on Baits and Awareness to Combat Rats - Hessian Cities Battle Rat Populations with Diverse Control Measures

Hessian cities are actively managing their rat populations, with various control measures in place. While some cities report stable numbers, others see fluctuations throughout the year.

Darmstadt and Hanau maintain regular control measures, with no reported increase in sewer populations. Darmstadt uses traps and baits, while Hanau focuses on sewers, flood channels, and technical structures, receiving around 70 sightings annually.

Limburg has conducted campaigns for 30 years, with about 80 sightings each year. Offenbach lays bait and monitors acceptance, currently with 140 sightings reported. Wiesbaden faces around 200 infestation reports yearly, mainly due to sewer issues caused by food disposal.

Kassel Wasser promotes prevention with its 'Trash instead of Dinner!' campaign, reducing food sources for rats. Despite 53 reports this year, there's no sign of a population increase. Frankfurt, however, sees around 200 to 260 reports yearly, with numbers rising in warmer months.

Hessian cities employ diverse strategies to manage rat populations, including baits, traps, and prevention campaigns. While some cities report stable numbers, others face seasonal fluctuations. Despite destructive behavior and disease risks, effective control measures help maintain manageable rat populations in urban areas.
