Hesse's Urgent Push to Neuter Stray Cats and Curb Overpopulation
Two animal welfare groups in Hesse have organised an extra spay-and-neuter day for stray cats. The main event, set for February 26, 2026, aims to tackle uncontrolled breeding and reduce animal suffering. Funding comes from the Hesse State Animal Welfare Association, ensuring wider support for the initiative.
HĂźnfeld Stadt und Land e.V. and Tierschutz Fulda und Umgebung e.V. are leading the effort. Their goal is to prevent further harm caused by unchecked stray cat populations. To manage demand, extra capacity has been added so all reported cats can be neutered without delay.
Volunteers are preparing intensively for the task, though high report volumes may slow response times. Despite this, the groups stress that stray cats should be reported at any timeânot just on action days. Neutering services remain available year-round.
The organisations have thanked local residents for their active role in reporting strays. Their involvement helps maintain ongoing animal welfare efforts across the region.
The February 26 event will expand neutering efforts in Hesse. With additional funding and resources, more stray cats can be treated promptly. The initiative highlights the importance of community cooperation in managing stray populations effectively.
