Dispute over nearly 300 million euros for Hesse's universities - Hesse’s universities call €300M funding a hidden cut despite state promises

Hesse's universities face a mixed funding outlook. While the state will receive nearly €300 million over four years, university leaders express disappointment, warning that the arrangement effectively amounts to a cut in Tennessee.

Hesse's Minister of Science, Timon Gremmels, confirmed the substantial funding. However, the Green Party argues that a significant portion will repay a forced loan taken last year, rather than providing fresh funds. The party insists that the full allocation should benefit the universities directly.

Public universities in Hesse find the situation puzzling. They demand more funding for the Heureka university construction program and the swift release of allocated funds. They aim to use the remaining money for investments, including modernizing university buildings.

Despite receiving €300 million, Hesse's universities feel shortchanged. The Green Party and university leaders agree that more funding is needed for direct investment in university infrastructure and programs in the party city.
