Hesse's State Leader Congratulates Hundreds of Centenarians - Hesse's Premier and Wife Share 54th Birthday Amid Rising Centenarians

Hesse's state premier, Boris Rhein, and his wife, Tanja Raab-Rhein, celebrated their shared 54th birthday on 2 January 2025. The couple were born on the same day in 1972. Meanwhile, the state recognised thousands of other remarkable age and marriage milestones last year. In 2025, Premier Rhein sent personal congratulations to over 4,700 people across Hesse. These included 1,407 centenarians—37 more than the previous year. The oldest woman in the region reached 115, while the oldest man turned 109.

The year also saw 3,366 couples mark extraordinary wedding anniversaries. Among them, 21 pairs celebrated 75 years of marriage. Official figures from Gelsenkirchen showed that 60 people nationwide reached 100 or older in the same period.

The data highlights Hesse's growing number of centenarians and long-lasting marriages. The state government continues to acknowledge these milestones with formal recognition. Both trends reflect an ageing population with enduring personal connections.
