Hesse's minister honors fallen officer on Christmas Eve anniversary
On December 23, 2023, Hesse's Interior Minister Roman Poseck visited police stations across East Hesse to recognise the work of officers during the holidays. The visit also marked a solemn moment of remembrance for Christoph Rehm, a police officer killed in the line of duty eight years earlier. During his tour, Poseck stopped at Herborn station, where he observed a minute's silence in honour of Christoph Rehm. The 30-year-old officer had been fatally stabbed while conducting a ticket inspection on Christmas Eve in 2015. Another officer suffered severe injuries in the same attack.
Poseck met with officers to thank them for their service over the festive period. He also acknowledged the efforts of paramedics and firefighters working through the holidays. Across Hesse, around 950 officers were on duty on December 24, 2023, ensuring public safety. The minister highlighted the risks police face daily. More than 16,000 officers serve in Hesse, demonstrating dedication and professionalism in challenging conditions. For the family, friends, and colleagues of Christoph Rehm, Christmas Eve remains a day of mourning.
The minister's visit underscored the ongoing dangers of police work and the commitment of officers during high-pressure times. December 24 continues to serve as a reminder of the risks faced by those protecting the public.
