Hessian Labor Market: Slump Instead of Autumn Revival - Hesse's Job Market Struggles: 2,900 Apprenticeships Unfilled, Unemployment Rises

Hesse's job market indeed faces challenges, with nearly 2,900 training positions remaining unfilled. Despite the usual autumn hiring boost, unemployment rose by nearly 10,200 year-over-year, keeping the unemployment rate steady at 5.8 percent. Over 205,000 people are registered as job seekers.

The number of apprenticeship opportunities decreased to just under 32,500, a drop of over 2,200 from last year. Meanwhile, the number of young people seeking vocational training increased by roughly 1,600 to 36,273. By September's end, 3,642 young people were still searching for suitable apprenticeships, up by 1,226 from the previous year.

Platforms like azubi.de and mobil.hessen.de list available apprenticeships, including roles such as Pflegefachmann/frau and Kaufmann im Einzelhandel. However, regional director Frank Martin expects unemployment to continue rising after accounting for seasonal fluctuations.

Hesse's job market faces a skills gap, with more job seekers than available positions. Despite efforts to fill apprenticeships, the number of unfilled training spots remains high. Officials anticipate further increases in unemployment.
