CDU and SPD gain in Wiesbaden - Greens suffer significant losses - Hesse's election shake-up: CDU leads as AfD surges in Wiesbaden

Preliminary results from Hesse's municipal elections in Wiesbaden show shifts in voter support among major parties. The CDU secured the largest share, while the AfD made notable gains compared to 2021. Not all votes have been counted yet, as ballots with individual candidate preferences remain untallied.

The CDU emerged as the strongest party in Wiesbaden, winning 26.3 percent of the vote. This marks a 2.8-point increase from the 2021 election. The SPD followed with 22.2 percent, up 1.9 points from five years ago.

The Greens saw a decline, dropping 6.1 points to 15.3 percent. Meanwhile, the AfD gained 6.2 points, reaching 12.7 percent in the city. The Left Party also grew, securing 7.8 percent—a 1.6-point rise. The FDP, however, fell sharply to 5.0 percent, losing 5.4 points since 2021. These figures only include ballots where voters marked a single cross for a party list. Ballots with individual candidate preferences will be counted in the coming days. In other major Hessian cities like Frankfurt, Kassel, and Darmstadt, the AfD performed weaker than in Wiesbaden, with results between 12 and 15 percent.

The final outcome in Wiesbaden will depend on the remaining votes yet to be tallied. The CDU remains the leading party, while the AfD's performance varies between urban centres. The Greens and FDP face contrasting fortunes, with one losing ground and the other struggling to hold support.
