Hesse’s 80th Anniversary Celebrates Youth Creativity Through Art

Hesse is preparing to mark its 80th anniversary next year with a creative twist. The government has launched Jugend malt (Youth Paints), an initiative inviting children and young people to share their artistic visions of the region. Timon Gremmels, the Minister for Science, Research, Art and Culture, is leading the project and has encouraged all participants to embrace their creativity with enthusiasm.

The Jugend malt event asks young artists to explore what makes Hesse unique. They can reflect on their personal experiences of the region or suggest ways to improve life there. The initiative also ties into broader themes, celebrating democracy and its core values—solidarity, justice, peace, and friendship.

The Jugend malt initiative will run as part of Hesse’s 80th-anniversary festivities. Young participants will have the chance to see their artwork recognised in a public celebration of democracy and regional pride. The project’s outcomes will be shared next year, giving a creative snapshot of Hesse through the eyes of its youth.
