Laughing gas, e-cigarettes, and vapes seized - Hessen’s Safe City Center crackdown nets illegal vapes and nitrous oxide stashes

A large-scale operation in Hessen, dubbed Safe City Center, led to the seizure of illegal vaping devices, nitrous oxide, and speeding violations. Coordinated inspections took place across several cities, including Raunheim and Rüsselsheim, targeting traffic offences, kiosks, and public safety checks.

In Raunheim, police stopped 77 vehicles during speed checks, with 56 drivers found exceeding the limit. Meanwhile, officers discovered 1,300 illegal vaping devices hidden inside a panel van.

During kiosk inspections, customs officials confiscated 80 illegal e-cigarettes and 13 cans of snus tobacco, examining a total of 17 kiosks. In Rüsselsheim, one shop was found selling 160 canisters of nitrous oxide without the required hazard assessment, leading to their immediate seizure. Separately, police checked 28 people in the city’s weapon-free zone but found no violations.

The Safe City Center operation resulted in multiple seizures and traffic penalties, with illegal vaping products, nitrous oxide, and speeding offences among the key findings. No further details on the agencies involved have been released.
