Hessen's first-time buyer scheme helps 14,800 households secure homes
Hessen's first-time buyer scheme has now supported 14,800 households since its launch in autumn 2024. State Premier Boris Rhein announced that over €229.5 million in funding has been approved, with thousands of families already receiving financial help to purchase their first home.
The programme refunds part of the property transfer tax, easing the cost for new buyers. So far, 14,800 applications have been greenlit, and more than 11,800 households have received payments.
In the latest round alone, nearly €6 million was distributed. Of this, €3.61 million went to 2,281 first-time recipients, while €2.37 million reached 1,476 individuals collecting their second of ten planned installments.
Families have benefited the most, receiving around €132.6 million—roughly 58% of the total approved funds. The state government highlights homeownership as a key part of retirement planning, offering long-term financial security rather than just short-term aid. The scheme also aims to boost the construction sector by increasing demand in the housing market.
The funding has already helped thousands of households enter the property market. With over €229.5 million allocated, the programme continues to provide direct financial relief while encouraging investment in housing. The next disbursement rounds will extend support to more first-time buyers across Hessen.
