Hessen Deploys 10,000 Officers for 2026 Carnival Cruise Security Overhaul
Hessen is stepping up security for the 2026 Carnival cruise season with a detailed new plan. The Hessian Ministry of the Interior, alongside state police, has introduced a wide-ranging package to keep celebrations safe. Around 10,000 officers will be deployed from 28 February to 5 March to ensure public protection.
The security measures include stricter checks on weapons laws, rapid response teams, and specialised units. A 'three-ring security concept', previously used during Christmas markets, will also be in place. This layered approach aims to prevent incidents before they escalate.
Officers will focus on specific threats, including politically motivated crimes, sexually motivated violence, and anti-LGBTQ+ offences. Robbery and pickpocketing will also be closely monitored. The State Police Headquarters has issued clear directives, stressing teamwork between police, event organisers, and local authorities.
Interior Minister Roman Poseck has made it clear that public safety remains the highest priority. Police will maintain a visible presence throughout the Carnival cruise period, ready to act quickly if needed.
The 2026 Carnival cruise season in Hessen will see one of the largest police operations in recent years. With 10,000 officers and a structured security plan, authorities aim to prevent crime and respond effectively. The measures reflect close coordination between law enforcement and event partners.
