Hesse Unites to Break the Silence on Child Abuse and Violence

A Prevention Expert Conference for the Schutzschild initiative took place in Darmstadt this week. The event brought together over 170 teachers, educational professionals, and foster parents to address the protection of children and adolescents from violence and sexual abuse. Organised as part of the BREAK THE SILENCE campaign and the Safer Together in Hesse prevention initiative, the conference aimed to strengthen safeguarding efforts across the region.

The conference opened with welcoming remarks from Dr. Manfred Droll, Chancellor of Darmstadt Technical University, and Manfred Burkart, Director of Operations at the Southern Hesse Police Headquarters. Their speeches highlighted the urgency of coordinated action in child protection.

Participants received practical guidance on safeguarding measures, along with updates on the latest scientific research. The event also provided contact details for key regional partners, ensuring ongoing support for attendees. Organisers stressed the need for well-coordinated collaboration among professionals to take effective action when risks arise.

The project team underlined the significance of the conference, aiming to leave participants with clarity, confidence, and a sense of shared responsibility. Murat Avci, a press officer at the Southern Hesse Police Headquarters in Darmstadt, served as the media contact for further inquiries.

The conference reinforced the importance of joint efforts in preventing violence and abuse against young people. Attendees left equipped with updated knowledge, practical tools, and stronger professional networks. The initiative continues under the broader BREAK THE SILENCE and Safer Together in Hesse programmes.
