Fewer Convictions in Hesse - Majority Men - Hesse Sees 6.0% Conviction Drop in 2024, Men Make Up 81.9%
In 2024, the number of convictions in Hesse decreased by 6.0% compared to the previous year, marking a 29.7% reduction since 2004. This decline was accompanied by a significant gender disparity, with 81.9% of convicted criminals being men and only 18.1% being women.
Traffic-related crimes were the most common offenses among women, accounting for 26.0% of convictions. Theft and embezzlement followed, making up 24.0% of convictions for women. For men, traffic-related crimes were also prevalent, with 28.9% of convictions, while other property, ownership, and document crimes constituted 18.0%.
The Hessian Minister of Justice, Christian Heinz, attributed the overall decrease in convictions to swift offender identification and decisive state action. He emphasized stricter penalties for serious crimes like ATM explosions to combat organized crime effectively. The minister made no specific comments on the high number of male convictions.
In 2024, Hesse saw a significant reduction in convictions, with men accounting for the majority of those convicted. Traffic-related crimes were the most common among both men and women. The Minister of Justice attributed the overall decrease to efficient law enforcement and stricter penalties for serious crimes.
