Hesse police probe swastika vandalism, bus assault and car theft in one day

Police in Hesse are investigating three separate incidents that took place on Wednesday. In Maintal, a car was vandalised with a banned symbol, while in Langenselbold, a handbag was stolen from a vehicle. Meanwhile, a dispute between a bus driver and a passenger in Erlensee has led to assault allegations.

In Maintal, the owner of a Volkswagen Golf discovered a swastika and offensive text painted on the car's bonnet around 6:10 p.m. The vandalism happened along Schäfergasse, near the even-numbered houses. Officers from the State Protection Division are leading the investigation, as the symbol used is unconstitutional. Witnesses are urged to contact the criminal police (Kripo) on 069 8098-1234.

Earlier that afternoon, between 5:30 p.m. and 5:55 p.m., thieves stole a handbag from the passenger seat of a Volkswagen UP in Langenselbold. The bag was later found discarded in a glass recycling bin on Brühlweg. Anyone with information is asked to call Langenselbold police station at 06183 91155-0. In a separate incident on Wednesday morning, a 38-year-old man tried to board a bus on Zum Fliegerhorst street in Erlensee despite being banned. An argument broke out, and the driver forcibly removed him from the vehicle. Police are now investigating both men for suspected assault and insult charges.

Authorities are actively pursuing leads in all three cases. The vandalism in Maintal is being treated as a serious offence due to the nature of the symbol used. Investigations into the theft and bus altercation remain ongoing, with police appealing for witness statements.
