Hesse police crack down on drugged drivers ahead of 2025 carnival celebrations

Police in Hesse have stepped up traffic checks ahead of the 2025 carnival season. Two drivers were recently caught for drug-related offences during separate stops in Groß-Gerau and Büttelborn. Both incidents occurred as part of intensified enforcement measures.

On a stretch of Bundesstraße 44 near Groß-Gerau, officers pulled over a 42-year-old motorist. The man lacked a valid driving licence and was already wanted for an unpaid fine. After further checks, he showed signs of prior drug use. Authorities took him into custody for a blood test before releasing him once the fine was settled. He now faces criminal proceedings.

At another checkpoint on Robert-Bosch-Straße in Büttelborn, a 22-year-old driver was stopped. A roadside test confirmed recent cannabis use. The driver was also detained for a blood test.

The increased controls come as police prepare for the carnival period. While reports mention stricter enforcement, no specific figures compare this year's violations to previous years.

The two cases highlight ongoing efforts to curb drug-related driving offences. Both drivers were processed under the same heightened enforcement campaign. Authorities continue to monitor traffic violations as carnival celebrations approach.
