Private Health Insurers Cover Confidential Forensic Examinations After Violence - Hesse Now Covers Forensic Exam Costs for Abuse Victims Retroactively

Victims of domestic violence or sexual assault in Hesse will now have their expenses for confidential forensic exams guaranteed. The state has reached an agreement with private health insurers to share these costs. This change applies retroactively from July 1, 2025.

Previously, the state of Hesse had guaranteed expenses for privately insured individuals without insurance during a transitional period. The new agreement ensures that both statutory and private health insurers will share the responsibility for these exams.

The change means victims in Hesse can access forensic exams without worrying about costs. Private insurers will now share the responsibility with statutory providers. The retroactive application ensures coverage for cases dating back to the start of July.
